Why it works:
Some commonly used acupuncture point locations for relieving headache in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) include 百會Baihui, 風池(Fengchi) and 合谷(Hegu). You can apply acupressure in these areas for similar effects.

How it works:
百會(Baihui, DU20), means Hundred Convergences in Chinese. It is located at the center point on the line connecting the apex of both ears. Stimulating Baihui is effective in relieving headache caused by stress. Use your palm to massage the Baihui point in circular motion for 30 to 40 seconds.

風池(Fengchi, GB20), means Wind Pool in Chinese. These points are located in the depression between the origins of the Sternocleidomastoid and Trapezius muscles, at the junction of the occipital and nuchal regions. Stimulating Fengchi is effective in relieving headache around the back of the head, shoulder and neck. Use your two thumbs to press deeply against the Fengchi points for five seconds and then release. Do this for 20 times. You can also massage the points in circular motion instead of deep pressing.

合谷(Hegu, LI4), means Joining Valley in Chinese. These points are located on the dorsum of the hand, between the first and second metacarpal bones, approximately in the middle of the second metacarpal bone on the radial side. Stimulating Hegu is effective in relieving frontal headaches and headaches caused by sinusitis or nasal congestion. It is also used to reduce back pain and toothache. Use your thumb and forefinger of the opposite hand, squeeze this area until you feel a mild discomfort. Continue to hold the pressure for 20 to 30 seconds and then release. Do this for 20 times.

A very important note is that stimulating Hegu may induce contractions in the uterus; as such it should be avoided if you are pregnant.
